When times are tight, it’s time to trade.
Recently, my friend and martial arts instructor Ian approached me with a trade offer: his Emerson TKF-1 (Tim Kennedy Folder) for my fully-serrated 6-inch Cold Steel Hold Out.
Of course, I jumped on it!
I threw an extra knife in (Nighthorse) to make it more worth his while, but what really felt satisfying was the trade itself!
Getting a sweet new and pricey knife without spending the money while “thinning out the herd” by one knife that gets no carry.
Then last week, on Thursday Night Knives, I presented a sweet Heretic Manticore X for sale in order to fund the purchase of a Microtech SOCOM Elite Auto.
I am trying to be ever more responsible when getting my hands on high-ticket items. To me, $300 is high ticket.
Lo and behold, one of my longtime viewers and knife friends had the exact knife to trade.
So, I found the knife that I am currently burning for.
I am getting rid of a knife I don’t carry.
And no money is exchanging hands.
I love it!
Riding this particular high, I am going to take a closer look at what I am willing to part with and what I really desire for my collection and set about finding someone to trade with.
When it works, trading sure beats buying. It eliminates the guilt and streamlines the collection.
