The Vampire FIXedc: A Modern Take on a Classic Design
Jack Wolf Knives expands its fixed blade lineup with a stunning new design, and it's another home run.
Well, Ben has done it again!
Ben Belkin, owner and designer at Jack Wolf Knives, consistently churns out masterpieces of modern knife design, anchored in the traditional knives of the past.
He started the company with modern interpretations and builds of traditional slip joint patterns from yesteryear, putting his spin on the Boy's Knife, the Swayback, and the Sodbuster, just to name a few.
Each release featured a selection of handle covers, from the old school to the super contemporary (flashy carbon fibers).
He has seen a lot of success amongst slip joint collectors (which he is) and has converted quite a few modern knife aficionados to the older, more deliberate style of pocket knife.
Then Ben transmuted those very successful slip joint models into slightly larger modern folding/front-flipping versions, further reeling in modern knife lovers who have an eye for traditional design.
These bolster locking models are some of this Knife Junkie's favorite Jack Wolf Knives to carry, as they bear the convenience of the modern-day pocket clip as well as a larger blade. Being a smart businessman and entrepreneur, Ben diversified his product line to include more of the knife-buying public with offerings that span the gamut of taste.
His latest release, though, is the second in the company's fledgling fixed-blade lineup.
The first was a fixed-blade version of the super popular Midnight Jack lineup called the Midnight FIXedc, a sheepsfoot blade with a coffin-style handle and a gorgeous black leather pocket sheath.
The new Vampire FIXedc gives the same treatment to the popular Vampire Jack slip joint, a spear-point (almost dagger-like) blade with a swell-center coffin handle.
The Vampire FIXedc that I got has beautiful rosewood handle scales with a braided lanyard and titanium bead and a hand-rubbed S90V blade, all nestling into a stout and handsome white-stitched black leather sheath that clips to the pocket.
This is one hell of a beauty, and I believe, like his bolster locking models, it will serve to convert more slip joint lovers to fixed blades.
At this point, Ben and Jack Wolf Knives have more than proven that they are a force in the knife world and have the flexibility and imagination to hold my interest as a collector.
So at risk of sounding greedy, I must say... I can't wait to see what he has in store next!
