The Critical Importance of a Car Knife
I had a day off recently, smack dab in the middle of the week. Like every day off, the morning started with the construction of an impossible list of all the things I intended to get done before picking up the girls from school.
Coffee, check.
Wallet, check.
Phone, check.
Glasses, check.
I grabbed my keys and was out the door…
You noticed it, I didn’t have “knife” or “knives” on the checklist. But did I need to? Wouldn’t that be a bit like putting “shoes” or even “feet” on the checklist? After all, it is a rare waking moment that I am without at least one knife.
You know where this is going. I walked into the post office to send off a giveaway knife and realized while in line, I was completely without a blade.
Much like when I run out of other things that seem inexhaustible, my mind went through all types of gymnastics trying to figure out where, on my own person, I may have a hidden blade unbeknownst to myself.
But lo and behold, The Knife Junkie was knifeless. I suppose if I really needed a knife, I had one in the box I was holding. That’s called “Cold Comfort.”
As soon as I got to my car I dug out my favorite little “throw away” defensive blade, ordinarily reserved for any sucker who decides to reach through the window while I’m stopped. That knife is the Victorinox Fruit knife with the Ed Calderon treatment (bent handle, finger notch, jute wrap.
I dropped that little devil in my pocket and continued with my day of errands, run with Henry Hill-like urgency.
“You wanna see helicopters, I’ll show you helicopters…”
Take it from me it is important to have a backup to the backup. Two is one and one is none. None is also none.
Ultimately, not having a knife on you is life threatening, you could die from lack of preparation, lack of protection or you could simply die of shame, like I nearly did.
Thanks for being a “knife junkie” and a subscriber to this newsletter, as well as the podcast and a regular viewer of “Thursday Night Knives.” It is much appreciated!
Speaking of “Thursday Night Knives” I look forward to seeing you tonight at 10 p.m. life on YouTube, Facebook and even Twitch!
Until then… don’t forget your knife/knives!!
