I am not convinced that pocket carry is my ideal for a fixed blade, but this knife might convince me otherwise.
I am talking about the new Beckwith Covert from the new Fisher Blade Co. Designed by Chas Fisher and his knife maker brother John, the Beckwith Covert is a weapon first and everything else second, or so say the designers.
The super-angular American tanto blade is screamin’ sharp, pointy and positioned to optimize cuts from the secondary point. The handle fits a full four finger grip, provided you don’t have giant mitts, and brackets the hand with a forward finger guard and pommel mounted quillion, to aid in drawing the knife.
And where do you draw it from? Your pocket kydex sheath, of course!
In a set up similar to the Amtac Northman, the sheath sits low in the pocket, secured by an upward projecting DCC clip, which leaves a small grabbable portion of the pommel (with quillion) for a quick draw.
This knife is intended for a standard grip draw, but works great in reverse/pikal grip. The standard is a right-hand sheath but a set up for lefties is also available.
The makers insist this is a self-defense weapon, and a fine one it would make indeed, but I have found through daily carry that the AEB-L (60-62 HRC) works great for EDC tasks, none of which have any chance of substantially dulling the blade.
So, despite their adamant intentions, the Fisher brothers have created both a great weapon and EDC tool with their first outing: The Beckwith Covert.
Look for a GAW of this great knife on “Thursday Night Knives” on Thursday May, 16.
