NoVA-1 EDC Bowie Knives are ready to ship. Will I get postpartum depression?
Something I noticed about myself, first in art school, but then in a major way when I started working in the Indie Film world at the start of my career, is that after a big project concludes, a sort of melancholy sets in.
It reminds me of how we hear that retirees tend to die quickly if they don’t pick up a hobby or cause to give their days purpose.
When you work on a long-term project and devote yourself to seeing it through to its conclusion, it gives you purpose. When the project is successfully concluded, a sense of purpose goes with it.
As I inspect and box up the Matt Chase/Hogtooth-made NoVA-1s destined for 23 lucky Knife Junkies, I feel more a sense of relief that my customers will be getting what they paid for than depression that the project is over.
These are exquisite, exclusive, handmade knives, and I will be proud that they will be carried across the states and in two countries in Europe.
But I have learned lessons too, about pricing, materials and communication… things I will do differently next time, but the great part is that there will be a next time.
Soon I will send Matt my sketches for the NoVA-2 EDC Seax, and we will start the process from the beginning.
As for other makers, there are two that I have been collaborating with on exciting projects, one of which I will be ready to announce soon!
