Knife Rights to the Rescue in Virginia (Again)!
Virginia House Bill 2298 is on the way to Gov. Glenn Youngkin for signature
This past week Virginia House Bill 2298 passed the state house and senate and is heading for Gov. Youngkin’s signature… As always, THANK YOU KNIFE RIGHTS!
HB 2298 removes switchblades (aka automatic knives) from the list of weapons that one cannot conceal carry in the Commonwealth. Just this past July 1, 2022, the Virginia switch ban was lifted, coinciding with departure of the detestable Gov. Ralph Northam and the arrival of the more traditionally-minded Gov. Glenn Youngkin (thanks again Knife Rights).
The new ruling would allow folks to carry their automatic knives the way they should be, hidden from prying eyes and sticky fingers.
I like to think I’m a pretty informed guy, but I had no idea that the lifting of the switchblade ban didn’t cover this mode of carry, but ignorance of the law never holds water.
Good thing I don’t get into scrapes with law enforcement, because yesterday I concealed carrying my Heretic Manticore-X recurve to a baby shower, where having the NoVA-1 handle sticking out of my waistband would have been perceived as inappropriate.
Never mind why I didn’t weasel my way out of that social obligation, the fact is, I didn’t, but I wasn’t about to go without a secondary knife on me. You never know who might show up to a baby shower these days.
All of this is to say, that we are in debt to Doug Ritter and Knife Rights, especially those of us who call Virginia “home” — and with a substantial source of funding in the Amazon Smile program going away, the time has never been better to become a member of the organization that fights for the rights of all us Knife Junkies.
I encourage you to become a member of Knife Rights — https://kniferights.org/membership — where every penny you provide in membership dues is an investment that helps ensure A Sharper Future!

NoVA-1 Preorder
The preorder for the NoVA-1 EDC Bowie Knife is live … BUT this run of numbered knives (limited to 50) will end March 31, 2023.
The NoVA-1 is a design collaboration between Bob DeMarco of the Knife Junkie Podcast and ABS Journeyman Bladesmith, Matt Chase of Hogtooth knives. Inspired by the Hogtooth Knives EDC Tanto, a fixed blade knife that’s easy to carry in the uptight environs of Northern Virginia (NoVA), the Knife Junkie decided to call this EDC Bowie, NoVA-1, in honor of the D.C. suburbs.
Each NoVA-1 (limited run of 50 serial numbered knives) will cost $275, and features a 3.5″ 154CM Bowie blade. The handle ergonomics of the NoVA-1 and overall package are based on the Hogtooth Knives EDC Tanto, a fixed blade knife consistently featured on the Knife Junkie Podcast due to its ease of carry, robust usefulness and utter charm. The NoVA-1 features polished deep burgundy linen micarta handle scales with forest green liners.
