For me, it was the conclusion of an epic project, and for those who just received their NoVA-1 EDC Bowies, it’s the beginning of a long relationship.
Now that the Hogtooth Knives-made NoVA-1s are at their forever homes, I’ve begun thinking about what those knives will see on their long journey to becoming dust.
Hopefully, each handmade knife will see its fair share of mundane cutting chores while giving the owner peace of mind when things look sketchy.
I also hope the knife offers some pride of ownership, acts as a conversation starter, and helps to elevate the expectations of non-knife folk who come in contact with it.
Matt Chase has been making knives for 30-some years, and it shows. His fit and finish is second to none, so I can see how the NoVA-1 could become a safe queen for some.
As a collector, I get it. But I really do hope that most of the limited run of 27 serial-numbered NoVA-1s out in the world see a lot of active duty, because when it comes down to it, Matt makes some of the best cutting tools I’ve experienced.
Next, I will use the lessons learned on the NoVA-1 to release the NoVA-2, another collaboration with Hogtooth, featuring the same handle but featuring a Wharncliffe blade.
I cannot wait to bring more of my designs to knife enthusiasts through these types of collaborations with great knife makers. More on that shortly.
Until then, keep your eyes peeled for more NoVA news; there’s some exciting stuff in the offing!
