Is Competitive Cutting (Blade Sports) in My Future?
Probably Not Yet, But This Awesome Jimi Slash Competition Chopper Will Still Get Used!
There’s a brand new type of knife that just joined my collection.
Thanks to Jimi Slash and Cold Steel, I am now the proud owner of my first competition chopper.
What is a competition chopper, you say?
It’s a knife used in Blade Sports and other competitive cutting events. There are 10 rules surrounding competition knife specifications, but the basics are:
The blade must be 10 inches long.
The overall length must be 15 inches.
The blade must be 2 inches wide.
With the Jimi Slash Competition Chopper, you get a 3V blade that’s 5/16 inches thick. Add a bird’s beak pommel on a kraton hand and a convex edge. You have a tremendous amount of cleaving power in your grasp.
I have thought about how cool it would be to enter a cutting contest, but I never took the idea seriously until I got this chopper in hand. Maybe I'll keep the competition part for my retirement years, but chopping shall commence forthwith!
Besides breaking down the old desk, I have some real legitimate non-competitive chores in mind for this bad boy, like large limb processing (from our huge poplar and white pine trees) and fire pit kindling making. Hardcore, I know.
Okay, fine, I might not have much use for the Jimi Slash Competition Chopper from Cold Steel, but that’s no different from 98% of my collection.
So much is about the appreciation of craftsmanship and design. However, in this case, I am more than thrilled to expand my knowledge and skillset in the abstract context of cutting competition events and the control they require.
Thanks Jimi! It could be that you inspired another knife obsession, but only time will tell. See you on the circuit after retirement!
