This’ll be a short one because there’s not much to say about it… People love knives even if they don’t know it; it’s simply in their blood!
I am an influencer.
I am not talking about the trendy internet type of influencer.
I mean, I am an influencer with the people in my immediate circle.
It occurs to me that I have made knife junkies, or at least enthusiasts, out of many people in my personal life and my work life spheres.
I would like to think that it’s my winning personality and dazzling intellect that made the difference, but I realize now that my unapologetic enthusiasm for knives has given those around me permission to indulge in a dormant interest.
“Maybe it’s not so weird after all,” they may think as they justify their budding interest in knives. “But if it is, I know I’ll never be as weird about it as Bob is.”
Permission granted.
It could be that the shear variety of knives and uses allows interest in them to be linked to some other (non-collecting) activity, like cooking, camping, crafting, or combat, and therefore more acceptable.
Whatever it is, I will keep quietly and gently converting normies into knife junkies.
Won’t you join me in doing the same?
Knife Junkie out!
Bob Terzuola: The Knife Junkie Podcast (Episode 479)
Bob Terzuola, the "Godfather of the Tactical Folder," is the featured guest this week on Episode 479 of The Knife Junkie Podcast.
Terzuola's first knives were fixed-blade combat knife designs made for soldiers, CIA operatives, and security personnel working in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
In 1984, he moved to New Mexico and began making folding knives. Seeing a need for a knife that could be carried discreetly, he developed a model using black micarta for scales and a bead-blasted titanium frame and coined the term "tactical knife."
His most popular model is the ATCF (Advanced Technology Combat Folder), a linerlock folding knife. At first strictly tactical, he now makes the ATCF in a variety of exotic materials.
Terzuola wrote the definitive book on making tactical folders called "The Tactical Folding Knife," which was most recently updated in 2019.
He has collaborated with other knifemakers and production companies, including Spyderco, Strider Knives, WE/Civivi, Microtech Knives, and others. His latest production collaboration is a version of the ATCF with FOX Knives Italy.
