Goodbye and Godspeed Kubey Flash, it’s time to head on to greener pastures.
It is time to say goodbye to an old “friend and travel companion,” my Blade Show knife for the past three years, the Kubey Flash.
I purchased the Flash for its large size and utilitarian blade shape as a folder I could travel to Atlanta with and easily replace if TSA nicked it from my suitcase. Well, in that time I came to really like the knife, its handfilling ergonomics, its supersmooth flipping action, and its handsome good looks.
At Blade Show it has been “touched up” by sharpening system purveyors and lubricated by pivot oil purveyors; it has cut dinner steaks and breakfast waffles and made me feel safe and secure on late-night walks from “the Pit” to my various hotels.
I recently had a viewer reach out to me to ask if I was willing to sell my Kubey Flash to him. I got back to him with the guarded response stating that the knife has sentimental value to me and is easily and readily available on Amazon.
But his response really got to me and rang true.
This gentleman is a budding knife junkie with a real and complex love of that particular model of folder, going so far as to have built an entire Flash subcollection.
The exact one I own (with black hardware) is no longer available and would complete his collection.
What's a knife junkie in my position to do?
I put myself in his shoes for a moment, and I fully understood what I must do. So it is goodbye and farewell to you loyal Kubey Flash.
You have been an amazing travel companion, food knife, and guardian, but it’s time to go to a new home.
I will miss you, but you will be more loved where you are headed, and you will be surrounded by your family of Flashes.
Godspeed, little Kubey...
Did I mention I am sentimental?
