While recording this week’s midweek supplemental episode, which will air on Wednesday, Aug. 16, I was showing off the half-stop on the Fox/CKnives Gunstock slip joint.
I had just commented on the easy action when I closed the blade to the half-stop with my thumb. That easy action allowed the blade to wobble to a stop and overshoot, making the razor-sharp M390 edge bite my forefinger.
The blood began to flow crimson and angry, right there on camera.
Looking around my desk while trying not to interrupt myself, it was plain; I was woefully lacking in the bandage or super glue department. Luckily, I had a paper towel at hand (albeit dirty with grime and oil) that served as a makeshift bandage.
By the end of the recording, the flow had subsided and a scab had formed thanks to a clean cut and my Wolverine-like healing ability.
But it got me thinking:
A) Remember to get Band-Aids for my desk/reviewing table.
B) Familiarize myself with the tourniquet I recently bought.
And since you have a love of sharp and pointy things, maybe you should think about doing something similar.
My “trauma plan” is rudimentary at best, but enjoying dangerous tools all the time comes with risks. It's best to mitigate them now, with only a little cut on my finger.
