Civivi Perfrico: A Near-Perfect Dagger Held Back by Single-Edge Design
This stunning fixed blade needs Knife Rights' advocacy to reach its full potential.
Civivi took it almost all the way... maybe Knife Rights can take us the rest of the way.
The new Civivi Perfrico is a beautiful, 4.5-inch-bladed, decidedly tactical fixed-blade knife from their in-house design team.
The handle is contoured for comfort, choiled on the ricasso for a thumb-on-the-flat of the blade fighting grip, and intricately engraved with cross-hatching, while the blade is a beautifully fullered spear point of 14C28N with a near symmetrical profile.
For all the world to see, it is a dagger, capable and ready for the grim use of a dagger, except for one detail.
The Civivi Perfrico is a single-edged dagger design, which really sticks in my craw.
Now don’t get me wrong, this knife is absolutely beautiful and one I intend to keep, but the fact that its symmetry stops short of a double edge rubs me wrong.
I know, I get it. Civivi is in the business of selling knives and making money, and the fact that many jurisdictions worldwide do not allow double-edge knives is a major factor in making this dagger single-edge is not lost on me.
But still...
This Civivi Perfrico (affiliate link) knife and the sheath are so beautiful and functional that I will keep my copy, but not without modification.
I am lucky to know quite a few people with grinders and serious skills so that I should be able to get a second edge on this thing, especially considering that Civivi no doubt anticipated this conundrum and made the top bevel swedge so thin that sharpening it shouldn't be much of an issue.
I get knife companies’ position when it comes to double edge designs, but I hate that they have to make this ridiculous concession when presenting dagger designs to the public.
The only solution is to change the laws governing such ridiculosity, so make sure you check out Knife Rights and donate to their cause. They are fighting for common sense knife laws all over the USA.
Knife Rights efforts have resulted in 50 bills enacted repealing knife bans in 31 states and over 200 cities and towns since 2010.
Civivi took it almost all the way there... maybe Knife Rights can take us the rest of the way.

Joe Watson, J. Watson Knives: The Knife Junkie Podcast (Episode 573)
Episode 573 of The Knife Junkie podcast features former Army serviceman Joe Watson, who combines his military experience with Japanese knife-making traditions to create some of today’s most innovative combat knives.
Known for his signature “Zeno grind” technique and practical fixed-blade designs, Watson crafts knives that perform in demanding situations while maintaining a low profile.
“I never thought for a minute like I’m making something so I can make some money,” Watson explains. “My main concern was always just that this needs to be good and it needs to do what we need it to do.”
This philosophy shows in his attention to detail, from his adapted Japanese handle wraps to his carefully considered blade geometries.
Find Watson's work at Watson Knives or see his creations in person at blade shows in Texas and Atlanta.
