A Real Brick-and-Mortar Knife Shop
I stumbled across this gem on a recent beach trip, and of course I bought a knife!
One of my most exciting new knife purchases in ages… has been around for more than 25 years!
Recently, my family and I were driving through farmland in Delaware, coming back from the beach, when my wife spotted a sign that read Willey Knives.
Of course we had to stop and what we found was incredible: a knife shop, selling most of the brands we love in a purpose-built farmhouse basement, bookended by cornfields. Even better, the purveyors were the son and daughter of the original store owner, a farmer and knife maker, and super nice and knowledgeable.
I knew that I was going to buy a knife from them; I decided that before we even walked in.
However, I was with my wife, so my purchase would have to be somewhat reasonable. So, Cold Steel it was!
I explained that I have a sprawling Cold Steel collection with some dark, gaping holes in it. The TiLite VI (a six-inch Italian-style stiletto) would definitely fill one of those holes.
A video I recently saw of Tomas Alas savaging a ballistics dummy at Blade Show with the TiLite VI immediately sprang to mind and solidified my resolve in my choice.
It was such a thrill to be at an actual brick-and-mortar knife shop and talk to experts and like minded folk about knives and try out the feel of the knives I was considering purchasing—all without having to wait for Blade Show.
I look forward to having the Willey’s on The Knife Junkie Podcast to dig into how they have made a knife shop work for generations, but until then, I’ll keep flipping open this TiLite VI and remembering that awesome visit I had there.
WE NEED MORE BRICK-AND-MORTAR KNIFE SHOPS!
Knife Junkie Out.
